Blood Pressure Monitoring

The pressure of the blood in the arteries as it is pumped around the body by the heart is known as Blood Pressure. Your blood pressure does not stay the same all the time, it fluctuates throughout the day to meet your body's needs. It is affected by various factors, including body position, breathing, emotional state, exercise, food and sleep.

If your blood pressure is high, it is putting extra strain on your arteries and on your heart. This is also known as hypertension.

As a result, over time this strain can cause the arteries to become thicker and less flexible, or to become clogged with fatty plaques. While hypertension does not produce any symptoms, it places stress on different organs of the body, and can result in conditions such as heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease and stroke.

Monitoring your blood pressure is a good way to catch changes early and take appropriate action. At Star Pharmacy we may assist you to monitor and keep records of your blood pressure through our in-house screening/monitoring service and refer you for medical support when necessary.

Our qualified pharmacists are able to discuss the various ways in which you can lower your blood pressure and put less strain on your arteries and heart. Many of these are lifestyle changes which your pharmacist can help you with.
