Types of COVID-19 Vaccines

Available Covid-19 vaccines in our pharmacy:

AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria), Moderna (Spikevax), Pfizer (Comirnaty) have been approved by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration). Each vaccine is given as a shot in the upper arm, and both require two doses. Additionally, Novavax (Nuvaxovid) and recently Moderna Bivalent are available at Star Pharmacy.

For a quick overview of the key differences check out the table below. For eligibility requirements check out the infographic below for recommended doses.

ATAGI 2023 Booster doses:

ATAGI recommends a 2023 COVID-19 vaccine booster dose for adults in some groups, if their last COVID-19 vaccine dose or confirmed infection (whichever is the most recent) was 6 months ago or longer, and regardless of the number of prior doses received

ATAGI recommends adults (18-64 years of age) without risk factors of severe COVID-19 & children and adolescents (5-17 years of age) who have medical co-morbidities that increase their risk of severe COVID-19, disability with significant or complex health needs to consider a booster dose. You can see these statements here.

The table below is a helpful guide in recommendation of booster dose. Bivalent Pfizer and Moderna are the preferred vaccine. Vaccines choices still follow age group restrictions as per previous ATAGI advice. Click here for Australian Department of Health and Aged care update.
